I'm dead center, super libertarian. I want infrastructure maintained, better screening processes for immigration so we help the people that genuinely need it without just sending them to tent cities indefinitely or hurting our economy, and maximized civil liberties. A deadlocked Congress is what the founding fathers seemed to have intended. The government was designed to be inefficient. America is so massive that every new thing the government sticks its old, greasy hand into will always have unforeseen effects. When any party has a fast-track to policy, we're all in trouble. I'm glad Congress is going to have a really hard time getting anything passed, because I've not liked the majority of laws enacted in the past decade. It's refreshing (I wasn't able to vote because unexpected medical issues, but I live in a red state anyways so it wouldn't have mattered much anyways) and relieving..

So should we be starting a caravan to Canada then?

I wish companies weren't allowed to invest in elections the way that they do. It makes me sad because we had so many props on the ballot this year that passed or failed mainly due to fear mongering ads. While the ads didn't lie outright, they also didn't tell the whole truth or made the prop seem like it was about something else entirely. A lot of misdirection. And then you look at who contributed to it in the end & it's always some big company that has a special interest in the outcome :(.

The biggest area of concern that I have encountered in this Midterm voting cycle is the number of people who made their decision on who they were voting for exclusively by the party to which they are affiliated. So many people that I have spoken with both before and since Election Day either had no in-depth knowledge of the candidates they voted for or would vote for, or only voted for candidates running in their chosen party. I live in Florida and dozens of Republican voters told me that they voted for Ron DeSantis and Rick Scott just because they were the Republican candidates and for no other reason. When I questioned whether they agreed with proposed policies or ideologies of either DeSantis or Scott, most either had no knowledge on the subject or didn't care because the party affiliation..

I make it a point to avoid talking anything controversial with any of my friends. But with how politically charged everyone has become lately it has caused me to feel isolated and start losing friends. This is why I will not talk politics with my friends! But as soon as I even mention anything, the name calling starts and then they break-off the friendship. I even lost a friendship of 12 years because of differing views. So if you say these last two years were child's play, then I differently feel screwed..

I live in Des Moines Iowa and last night, Abby Finkenower was elected to be one of Iowa's representatives. This is huge because she is one of our first two women (both elected yesterday) and she is the youngest woman ever elected in a regular election. So Trump is going to rile people up against us and the House even more than before, and that could end up being good for Republicans and his reelection bid. I'm super afraid of that. And then things just went so terribly in the Senate! Now that it's even more in the conservative's favor, it's going to be so much harder to flip in the years to come. And we lost some really disheartening governor races, so that's a bummer. So, tl;dr: I'm optimistic, really, but still super, duper scared..

God man. What a war zone. I’m so tired of politics. It’s so divisive now and I’m tired. Like physically drained when i talk about it because people lie about their convictions. Do you know how many friends and family I have that say they support a certain ideology but as soon as a candidate comes out opposing that ideology but they are from a favorable party they vote for them? How many people don’t look up the debated questions and where they actually lie on the spectrum? Too many. It’s so infuriating. I’m from Texas and I honestly knew Beto was going to be close because people didn’t know much about him. Just what the fucking ads were and what he said. Same with Cruz. Whenever I talked about a policy or a factual point about either candidate they’d say they never knew! It was so infuriating and just downright pathetic. I think if people read up on Beto and Cruz the vote would’ve been way more one sided. Which side? Idk but it would’ve been much greater of a difference. Please people these next two years are crucial in listening. Find out what politics and beliefs these people are believing. Find out how extreme they are in their party and who you think best follows your beliefs and vote for that person..
